Advancing Collegiate Financial Wellness as an Essential Ingredient for Student Success

Virtual Symposium 2.0
July 26, 2022

with support from

MCCFW’s Annual Virtual Symposium is the signature event for Maryland’s campus-based professionals and community partners to convene for learning, sharing, and growing collegiate financial wellness initiatives as a part of larger efforts to increase student success.

Guests of the 2022 Symposium explored:

  • The state of the financial aid profession: Financial aid administrators (FAA) are partners and leaders in campus-based financial education efforts. As FAAs face the simultaneous challenges of increased regulatory pressures and unprecedented staffing shortages, a panel will discuss national and statewide conditions and effects on student and institutional success.

  • The Limited PSLF Waiver: Unpacking the dynamics of a temporary opportunity that can bring borrowers closer to achieving loan forgiveness and help institutions engage multiple stakeholders for mutual benefit.

  • Basic needs and emergency funding: Temporary federal provisions offered a gateway to resilience for students experiencing financial hardship. We will hear lessons from one institution’s application of HEERF funds, including changes that will outlast the pandemic.

Breakout sessions offered insight on:

  • coalition-building and strategic planning to bolster campus-based financial education ecosystems and

  • an innovative pilot program using peer-to-peer coaching to address the service gap in student loan repayment advising.
