On July 20, 2021, MCCFW hosted its Virtual Launch & Symposium, Advancing Collegiate Financial Wellness as an Essential Ingredient for Student Success, to

  • share broader collegiate financial wellness efforts including the state’s current financial education ecosystem and

  • highlight the value of creating a statewide network to advance collegiate financial wellness and introduce the Maryland Center for Collegiate Financial Wellness.

The MCCFW team was joined by 125 guests representing 29 postsecondary institutions in Maryland, more than 20 out-of-state institutions, and one institution in Canada, as well as federal and state agencies, nonprofit organizations, banks, and corporations.

Symposium Sessions

  • The Financial Education Continuum: Moving Forward Together

    Attendees were given an overview of the financial education landscape from the federal level down to the state’s current ecosystem. A panel discussion included an in-depth look at organizations that have taken the lead in addressing Maryland’s K-12 and adult financial education needs, and the role of MCCFW in strengthening the financial education continuum to support the needs of postsecondary students.

  • Emergency Aid + Financial Education: A Winning Combination for Financial Wellness

    Campus leaders shared their experiences with the emergency aid response to COVID-19, the importance of maintaining awareness of emergency aid after relief funds are exhausted, and provided examples of financial education and wellness programming to help students build financial life skills and assist those who have been affected by the pandemic.

  • Exploring Financial Wellness As An Essential Ingredient for Student Success

    After breakout sessions exploring the roles of Financial Aid, Faculty/Student Services, and Enrollment Management, the group reconvened to share action steps that emerged from the discussions. Attendees shared their opinions on topics of interest for future events and services, and learned about next steps for the Center and the new statewide network for postsecondary financial education professionals.
